“Your order sir?”

“Hey.. hi! Uh, 2 cups of hot chocolate.”

“With cream or marshmallow?”

“One with cream and the other with…” he directed the incomplete sentence towards her. But she was busy reading the menu.

“..with marshmallows.” He took a wild guess and completed the order.

“But I like cream!”

“Oh. I thought you liked marshmallows!”

“Yes I do; but not in hot chocolate”

“Sorry I assumed you like..”

“You assume a lot”

The waiter patiently kept turning his head like a tennis referee while they argued on her choice.

“Make both of them with cream.”

“Okay.”

“Thank you!”

The waiter smiled and left the table.

A tiny disappointment enveloped him as his assumption of knowing her very well was proved wrong.

“Hey..” he broke the apologetic pause.

“Ya?”

“You think we know each other well?”

“What?”

“Do you know me well?”

“I didn’t get you!”

“Have you ever realized that we know each other for over a decade now but we still don’t know each other well.”

“Haha. Hello Mr. Philosopher. Wassup?”

“Oh. Come on. Tell me — I like the moon or star?”

“I don’t know. Maybe stars”

“Nah! I love the moon. Okay. Do I like long drives more or walking?”

“Ummm. I don’t know!”

There was an awkward silence for a while again. “I think we have assumed that we know everything about each other well…”

“I know !!! But the truth is there is still so much more to know!” She completed his sentence.

“Waffle or pancakes?”

“Waffles”

“Fuck No. pancakes are better”

“Nope. Waffles.”

“Okay. Beach or mountain?”

“Beach!!”

“Hell yeah! Beach!!”

“Oh! Candles or fairy lights?”

“That’s a tough one..”

The happiness and loud laughter at the corner table of Bistro1 disguised their decade-old friendship as a week-old one.
